Welcome all you music lovers. The Superjesus are one of Australia's premier bands.
The Superjesus, first originated from various bands in Adelaide,
Australia, and were originally called the 'Hells Kitchen'.
It was not until 1994 that they changed their name to 'The Superjesus', as people were assuming that 'Hell's Kitchen' was a heavy metal band. Since then, their succes as a local Australian act has amazed the critics.
The Superjesus concentrated on developing their sound for over a year, before playing a live gig. The early Superjesus tracks have been described as 'heavier' with more metalic riffs. However, this has transformed into the melodic, heavenly, yet rocking sound - they are now famous for.
Even after this exploration period, the band still had trouble landing gigs, until the release of their EP - Eight Step Rail. With strong support and air time from Tripple J, the single, 'Shut My Eyes', earnt the band a strong interest from around the country. The EP would later spend five weeks at number one of the alternative
charts in 1996 and continued to be successful in 1997.
The band were recognised at the 1997 ARIA awards, taking out:
Best new single ('Shut My Eyes') and Best new talent.
With this, the recent releases of the singles, 'Down Again', and 'Saturation', from
their eagerly awaited debut release, 'Sumo' (released 16th of February 1998)
- the band has received massive amounts of airplay of radio startions around Australia.
Recently, I saw two Superjesus concerts in a time frame of two months. I first saw them live on the 20th of November 1998 at the Froum Theatre in Melbourne. I was lucky enough to meet them and get some pictures. The band are so nice and warm and it was a pleasure meeting them. I didn'trealise how good they were until I saw them live. With Sarah's amazing vocal ability and the way she works an audience is amazing.
